Vorlon Xenobiology

The Vorlons hide inside a biomechanical suit when they are among other races. Due to genetic manipulation each race, except the Centauri, sees a being of light when a Vorlon moves out of his suit but their true appearance could best be described as "formed energy". The PSI ability of a Vorlon is very high but it remains unknown how high it is. In addition to telepathic powers, Vorlons are highly adept in the use of telekinesis and some forms of psychometry

History

Ulkesh Kosh

The Vorlons are a member of the First-Ones and thus belong to the oldest races in the galaxy, although they are not as old as the Shadows. Their technology level is extremely high giving them an advance over all of the younger races. The Vorlons were able to use the hyperspace for space travel over one million years ago.

The Vorlon society was nearly destroyed when they built a gateway into a other dimension where they found a powerful race. The Vorlons believed that they were the strongest race in the galaxy but they were wrong.

Many Vorlons were killed in the war until they finally managed to stop the alien race. The gateway was lost in hyperspace before the Vorlons could destroy it.

The Vorlon society is based on logic and order, a concept that is not the basis for all other races. This different "philosophy of life" was the reason for several wars with other members of the First-Ones. One of these members were the Shadows, who could be called "Lords of Chaos". While the Vorlons believe that order and logic is the key for evolution, the Shadows believe in chaos and war.

Nearly all younger races have been extinct during the last great war against the Shadows around 10000 BC. After this war most of the First-Ones decided the leave this galaxy and move beyond the rim. Some First-Ones, including the Vorlons and Shadows stayed behind and began teaching the younger races their philosophy. First both sides respected the rules and a balance established between both races.

After thousands of years the Vorlons began manipulating the genetic code of the younger races. They wanted to change the evolution of these races so that they become more like Vorlons. The Shadows felt confined and launched another war against the Vorlons. After many years of fighting, both were to tired to continue and decided that the younger races could fight their wars.
genetic influence

Some wars between Vorlon philosophy members and Shadow philosophy members occurred the following centuries but the Vorlons were mostly able to strike back before the Shadows gained their full momentum. The last bigger war was around 1200 AD and this time the Shadows seemed to win. The defeat was only prevented due to a time travel of Cmdr. Jeffrey Sinclair, who traveled with Babylon 4 1000 years back in time. The station became the replacement for the destroyed headquarters of the Vorlon-Minbari alliance. The alliance finally managed to defeat but not to destroy the Shadow forces.

Silence dominated the following 1000 years. Meanwhile more of the younger races went into space and created huge empires. By 2246 the Shadows were back on the scene. This time they moved slower than before and began building up their power.

a Vorlon armada In the next 15 years a new Vorlon-Shadow war was developing and escalated around 2261 when the Shadows directly attacked some races of the "League of Non-Aligend Worlds", forcing the Vorlons to move into the battle. This time both sides wanted the definitively decision in which the younger races only played a minor role.
The Vorlons began destroying all planets that ever had contact with the Shadows. The Shadows did the same until it came to a final battle in the Coriana system. Vorlons, Shadows and the Army of Light fought against each other. With the help of other First-Ones, the Army of Light managed to defeat the Vorlons and the Shadows. After this battle all of the remaining First-Ones decided to leave the galaxy beyond the rim to meet the other First-Ones.
Vorlon Armada in hyperspace

At present it is impossible visit the Vorlon homeworld due to strong defense systems. Time will tell if the younger races will ever get as advanced as the Vorlons.
