Earth is the third planet in the solar systems and the biggest of the inner planets. The planet has a moderate climate with four different seasons each year. The surface is very variable ranging from rain forests and rocky mountains to huge deserts. The capital city Geneva is located in the Alps, a huge mountain range in the former Europe. Geneva was chosen because it would be very difficult for an alien invasion army to conquer the city.

Humans are bipedal, sexually reproducing mammals who have limited PSI capabilities. This PSI capabilities can be extended to a very high level (P12+) using drugs. The Humans can be best compared to the Centauri except for the genital organs.
History

The Human history of the last 5000 years has been dominated by wars and destruction in which millions died. Earth was divided into several unions for a long time which fought against each other. This changed with the founding of the "United Nations" in the mid 20th Century. Later the Earth Alliance was founded and replaced the United Nations organization.
A key point of Human evolution is their extreme high development speed. Humans managed to fly into space for the first time only about 60 years after the first "mechanical flight" has been recorded. From that point it took only another 200 years to reach a technology level like that of the Centauri. There are many indications that Human technology will soon be as advanced as the Minbari technology. The Minbari and Centauri needed several thousands of years to reach their current level, only the Narn can stand against the Human evolution speed.
| Earth Alliance began setting up colonies in 2090. Other colonies followed in the Sol-System but mankind was "trapped" in their home system. No "faster than light" technology had been developed and so "Sleeper Ships" had been used for many years. This changed rapidly when the Centauri made contact with the Humans in 2155. The Centauri offered to trade goods and technology to Earth, boosting Earths technology level into new heights. |

Human ships were allowed to use the Centauri jumpgates for a small fee and later the Centauri completely sold the jumpgate technology to Earth. From this point, Earth began building colonies in many systems. Earth Alliance to the rank of a galactic superpower after declaring war against the Dilgar. The Dilgar fought against the League of Non-Aligned Worlds and the Narn and were on the verge of success when without any notice Earth Force vessels joined the other races.
The Dilgar were defeated within one year and the Humans believed to be one of the major superpowers in the known galaxy. This proofed to be totally wrong when a Human deepspace patrol encountered some Minbari ships in 2245. The Minbari Warcruiser opened their gunports as a sign of respect and honor. The captain of the leading Earth vessel panicked and ordered to open fire at the first cruiser. They managed to badly damage the Minbari flagship and some other escort vessels before they fled into hyperspace. The Minbari were shocked and didn't follow the Earth ships. Shortly after this other Minbari cruisers arrived near an Earth base. The base commander ordered to launch fighters against the vessels. The result of this unlucky decision was the Earth-Minbari-War.
The human ships lost battle after battle. They had no chance against the superior Minbari vessels. One of the few victories against the Minbari occurred when Capt. Sheridan mined a section of the asteroid belt and then placing a distress transmitter between the asteroids. The Minbari thought that they could destroy an easy target when they got to the belt. The Minbari flagship, the Black-Star, and three other cruisers were destroyed by the fusion bombs. The Minbari were outraged by this action so that they ignored the Earth bases in the Sol-system. Their main target was now Earth itself.
The Minbari reached Earth in late 2247. 20,000 ships were placed around Earth to protect the planet from a Minbari invasion. Nearly all of the Earth vessel were destroyed when the Minbari decided to capture a human pilot for an interrogation. When they discovered that Minbari souls were in the human pilot they captured some more humans. They found their souls in these humans, too. To prevent killing their own souls the Minbari decided to surrender.
The Babylon Project was initialized some years after the war . The idea was that many alien races could come together on a neutral space station. After the first three stations had been sabotaged and the fourth station disappeared, Babylon 5 went online intact. The station became a huge trade and diplomatic center between many races.
Senator Luis Santiago was a great supporter of the Babylon Project. The later became President of the Earth Alliance and focused on a pro-alien policy. This policy was very controversial among other leading people on Earth and so he decided to go on a 5-Planet goodwill tour to justify his position. Just before the Earth-Force1 reached its destination at the transfer station Io, the ship exploded. Vice-president Morgan Clark was not on board the ship. He pretended to be ill and left the ship before it went on the goodwill tour.

The colonies at Proxima III, Orion VII and Babylon 5 declared their independence and broke away from Earth Alliance. The Mars colony joined them and was bombed by EA loyalist forces. They also tried to seize control over Babylon 5 but were driven off by Minbari forces.
The
beginning of the Earth-Civil-War
Clark's propaganda machine went online and prepared the people on earth for a civil war against the former colonies. During this civil war many people died and many ships on both sides were destroyed. After a long and bloody war Capt. John Sheridan and "his" Army of Light finally won the war. Earth was in the hand of the people again.
After the war was over, Earth joined the new "Interstellar Alliance" and agreed to the "Declaration of principles" which were the basis of this new alliance. Former Earth Alliance captain John Sheridan became the first President of the Interstellar Alliance with the provisional headquarters located at Babylon 5.
