Centauri Prime : Homeworld of the Centauri Republic

Centauri Prime is the third planet in the Zeta Tucane system. The planet has two moons and the cloud formations and colors look nearly like the ones known from Earth. Long time ago the planet was inhabited by two intelligent lifeforms, one were the Centauri the other were named Xon.

The Centauri people look nearly the same as the Humans do but the genetic difference is very big. The most pronounced difference between the two races are their sexual organs. Male Centauri have six tentacles while the female Centauri have six narrow receptive orifices. PSI-Ability can be found very often but is not so developed like in the Minbari population.

History

Two intelligent lifeforms were living on Centauri Prime long time ago. Both races had nearly the same technology level and were only separated by a large ocean. War was declared shortly after both developed the technology for extended sea voyages where they met each other.

It was a very brutal war in which the Centauri lost many battles because the Xon were physically stronger than the Centauri. All bigger Centauri Houses united when the Xon killed about 2 million Centauri in the City of Yandantrio. The Centauri finally managed to kill the last Xon in 511 AD.

After being the only intelligent lifeform on their planet, the Centauri concentrated on rebuilding their world. In the year 1241 AD they found an alien ship that crashed on their planet. This ship gave them the technology to travel into space and colonize most moons in their systems. After they discovered hyperspace and jump technology, the Centauri made contact with several other races.

When they saw that the new discovered race was less advanced they tried to conquer their colonies and planets but when they met races with at least the same technology level like the Minbari, the Centauri decided not to go into a battle.

The Centauri continued this way of expansion policy for some hundred years. Finally about 30% of the known galaxy was under their control. Even the Minbari had not that number of colonies and systems under their control. But like all big empires that have been build on conquest, war and slavery, decline was only a matter of time. Colony after colony separated from the republic and the Centauri lost their status as galactic superpower.

Many years after their fall to a galactic average race, the Centauri began building up their former empire again. During their second drive to the galaxy, they found the Narn. The Narn homeworld was very rich on resources and the people of Narn welcomed the Centauri. This changed when the Centauri occupied the planet and sent millions of Narns into slavery. After 100 years of occupation the Centauri left Narn because the resistance movement was too strong and most resources of the planet have been exploited. The Narn sought for revenge and so the Centauri lost many systems and colonies to the Narn.

In 2198 the Centauri made contact with the Humans. They first saw a lost colony in Earth and so many trade treaties were made. They allowed the Humans to use their jumpgates and later sold the technology needed to build the jumpgates to the Humans.

One of the major goals was to reclaim their old power and place in the galaxy. When Mr. Morden, the Shadow "representative", asked Centauri Ambassador Londo Molari"What do you want ?", Molari answered ...

"I want my people to reclaim their rightful place in the galaxy. I want to see the Centauri stretch forth their hand again and command the stars. I want a rebirth of glory, a renaissance of power. I want to stop running through my life like a man late for an appointment, afraid to...to look back or to look forward. I want us to be what we used to be. I want...I want it all back the way that it was!"

With the help of the Shadows the Centauri began their expansion policy again. The Shadows fought most battles and the Centauri conquered many worlds and colonies from other races. One of the first targets was a Narn colony in quadrant 37. Just before he could apologize for previous actions during the first occupation of Narn, Emperor Turhan died in 2259 on Babylon 5. Narleeth Cartagia Jarn, the nephew of Emperor Turhan became the new Emperor but he was only Lord Refa's puppet.

	Lord Refa eliminated all opponents of "his" emperor and became the most important person in the background. The only person who was nearly as quite as "successful" was Ambassador Londo Molari. His "victories" over the Narn with the help of Shadow forces gave him much influence at the imperial palace on Centauri Prime.
	With the destruction of the rest of the Narn fleet at Gorash by the Shadows the Centauri turned on the Narn homeworld. They bombed the planets with mass-drivers for four days when the Narn government surrendered. With this victory in the back, the Centauri began expanding their territory into the League of Non-Aligned Worlds. They wanted to create a buffer zone between the Centauri Empire and the other, bigger races.

But Londo suddenly became nervous. He became scared that one day the Shadows could turn on Centauri Prime itself.

"I... I am standing somewhere, on Centauri Prime I think, and I am looking up. And there are ships just like this passing overhead. First a few and then more. A thousand. Two thousand. So many that they blot out the sun. A terrible sight. Terrible."

He tried to persuade Refa to stop the relationship with the Shadows but Refa didn't respond to this. To achieve his goal Londo Molari poisoned Lord Refa with a two component poison. This forced Refa to stop his relationship with Morden and the Shadows.

Emperor Cartagia became more megalomania from day to day. He wanted to became a god like person and to achieve this goal he was even willing to offer the life of all people on Centauri Prime. With the help of G'Kar he was later killed by Londo Molari and Vir Coto.

The next step was to stop the relationship with the Shadows. Molari ordered to blow up the isle of Selini where the Shadows had established a base. After this he fulfilled his promise to withdraw all Centauri Forces from the Narn homeworld.

In 2262 Shadow minions undermined the Centauri Government and led the Republic into a war with the Interstellar Alliance. Centauri ships attacked transport vessels and systems that were members of the ISA. First nobody knew the source of these attacks but later Ranger Lenier found the connection between these attacks and the Centauri. An armada formed with Narn, Drazi, Brakiri and Vree ships bombed Centauri Prime. The Centauri surrendered and agreed to pay massive reparations to the worlds they attacked.
