What’s been heard: Word has reached a number of fans that there may be trouble brewing for the long-awaited Babylon 5 movie: The Memory of Shadows That WB doesn’t want to distribute The Memory of Shadows (aka: TmoS) because, being based on a TV show, it’s not ‘high profile’ enough for them. WB is only interested in big-budget projects with big stars. That other studios are being negotiated with. That it’s thought that fans won’t come out to see TV actors in a motion picture and that casting breakdowns have gone out looking for “Stars” over JMS’ objections. JMS is fighting the idea, knowing that the original actors who created these roles are the only ones who should.
Who has heard it? Once the blurb about TMoS starting to shoot in April came out on Production Weekly, http://www.productionweekly.com/site.html many fans with contacts in the industry renewed those contacts and started hearing the disturbing items above. While none of these contacts are yet willing to have their names publicly posted, those of us who are in contact with them know their veracity. This isn’t one person who’s heard one rumor. It’s been independently verified by several long-time, well respected fans.
"What does JMS say about this?" The Latest from JMS 1/302005 I know I've been hunkered down a bit of late, and there have been very good reasons for it...which someday I suspect I will be able to tell, perhaps in the form of another fairy tale.... I'd say that the next two weeks are going to be critical for the future of TMoS. There have been a variety of conversations about a variety of things and people, and some offers are starting to go out to various individuals...so we shall see what we shall see.... What’s being done? We’re trying to obtain the actual cast breakdowns sent out as that seems to be the best proof. If anybody knows of someone who might have this (agents, most likely), please post a note on JMSNews.com We’re trying to reach as many bulletin boards and web sites as we can to let people know about this and we're starting to make some headway. Among many sites that are now carrying the story, firstones.org's Troy Rutter has pulled together a page supporting the effort. Back in the "good ole days", he made up a shield that people could put on their page to show support for the write-in effort. For those of you who have already sent in your letters and bucks, visiting his page at firstones.org and adding the shield to your site is another way you can help us get the word out to Keep B5 Alive! Please Write Letters!!! This is an area where we can make our wishes known when they might do some good. The official announcement of TMoS hasn’t been made, and casting isn’t done yet. We need to let the studio know that "we will only support characters who were on Babylon 5 or Crusade to be played by the original actors." The only exceptions would be actors not available. Obviously, new characters should be the best suited for the role, regardless of star status.

Babylon Bucks are Now Available! The newly designed Babylon Bucks have been created to pledge our financial support for TMoS provided the original actors are cast to reprise their roles. Below are links to all the bucks currently available. Please join us in Phase 2 of the campaign by printing and sending Warner Bro's as many of the bucks as you'd like. We need to get these out ASAP, as the latest rumors are that the cast decisions are soon to be finalized. Please do not just send the bucks alone, write another letter and remind them how important this is to you. Stuff the bucks and your letter into an envelop and get them in the mail ASAP . Where do I write to? Here are the addresses we have so far, please send your bucks and letters the the Burbank address first then if you feel up to it send them on to the Elstree address as well. What do I write? See the sample letters posted and feel free to personalize them to sound like you. Points to make are: 1. THANK them for considering making the movie. 2. TELL them what Babylon 5 means to you. 3. EXPLAIN that only the original actors playing the parts they did on Babylon 5 and Crusade are acceptable to you. Let them know something about you. The more of us there are in different demographics, the more likely they are to respect us as a formidable group to market too. Don’t threaten with boycotts, no name-calling or references to parentage, just calm and persuasive writing.

Then what? Stay tuned for more information. We’re trying to obtain email addresses for specific people or departments. We may try to get the press involved. Advertisements in the trade publications are another option. A lot depends on the ‘buzz’ we create so help us spread the word of this effort on web sites and bulletin boards and newsgroups.
