B5: TLT's. Ahead of schedule and under budget?
12/24/2006

Here's the latest news from the horses mouth.
______________________________________________

As I write this, we have finished principal photography on "Babylon 5: The Lost Tales," coming in under budget and finishing a full day ahead of schedule. This first DVD, entitled "Voices in the Dark," covers the same 72 hour period of time as Sheridan travels on board a Presidential Cruiser en route to Babylon 5 from Minbar for a celebration marking the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Interstellar Alliance. One part of the story follows Sheridan as he picks up an unexpected visitor on the edge of Centauri space, Prince Regent Dius Vintari, and a warning about what will come afterward delivered by the techno-mage, Galen. The other part of the story is set aboard Babylon 5, as Colonel Lochley summons a priest from Earth space to deal with a problem that may have dark supernatural overtones. The two parts of the greater story intersect at certain key plot and thematic points, so that they overlap and complement each other while telling separate, but simultaneous, stories. The first DVD is going to require nearly 200 EFX shots, taking us all over Alliance space, and Babylon 5, which is being redesigned using the latest CGI technology. The same CGI is being used to create virtual sets a la Sin City, but on an even more detailed basis, in many cases integrating them with practical sets based on the original blueprint designs for Babylon 5. A number of behind-the-scenes pieces were shot for inclusion on the DVD, as well as a number of original short pieces that will be filmed in February which feature glimpses into the future of Babylon 5 and her characters. We have set-up a temporary webpage of photos from the shoot from my personal collection. These images mark the very first photos to emerge from production. [http://babylon5scripts.com/TLT-JMS-photos.html] For more information, keep an eye on www.babylon5.com as well as Babylon5scripts.com. WB will be integrating the internet as a key component for promoting B5:TLT and we are pleased to be a part of that effort.

The Latest news on the set of B5: TLT's
11/24/2006

Well it seems like things are moving at a break neck pace for the new B5 stories in the works. Below is an update from JMS on the progress.
______________________________________________

Just a quick hello direct from the set of Babylon 5: The Lost Tales. It's 4:51 p.m. and we just finished lunch (crew call at 10 a.m. lunch at 4). Bruce Boxleitner just completed a series of shots in a
Starfury, his first time back in the saddle. We're ahead of schedule and might actually wrap filming a day early. (It always goes faster if you don't actually put film in the camera.) We've introduced a new
Centauri character -- Prince Regent Vintari, third from the throne -- a new ISN reporter played by Teryl Rothery, a priest played by Alan Scarfe, and a character who may have come too close to certain dark
forces played by Bruce Ramsey. Part One of "Voices in the Dark" wrapped on Friday, and we should have part two done tomorrow, after a long sequence shooting in the hallway of a new Minbari Presidential Cruiser built for the Interstellar Alliance.

"Setting the Record Straight"!
11/21/2006

For those of you who believe that for some reason Bruce Boxleitner burned his crew jacket. Let me just say to you, that you are dead wrong and for those who don't know about this issue, here's some recent info to catch you up. It seems that some forum trolls with nothing better to do, have decided to claim that Bruce had burned his crew jacket. Thus alluding that he had no love for the show or something to that effect.

What a crock of _ _ _ _!

I personally attended the Richard Biggs memorial breakfast last year and at that time Bruce was in fact wearing his original crew jacket. Now this was an intimate venue and I had the opportunity to get very close to everyone in attendance. I can tell you the jacket in question did not look like it was brand new or recently fabricated. It looked as though it had been worn many times, yet cared for like something that really meant something to him. At one point during that day Bruce made mention to all of us, how proud he was to still have his original crew jacket. I think it was when one of Richard's jackets was being auctioned off ( it went for $550 I think). Not knowing of any other reason for his comments, I disregarded them until I heard of this slanderous rumor.

So to all you nay sayers, I say please move on. This was a hoax and should be treated as such by anyone investigating it. Below is a recent picture of Bruce in the same jacket I saw him in last year. BTW I took pictures at the event last year and here's some links to him wearing it, there and then.

Here I am with two beautiful women, I'm sure you may have seen them somewhere before.

I DID NOT BURN MY CREW JACKET!

Bruce,

I'm sure a man of your integrity would never have committed such an act. We the real fans are with you and will do what we can to "Set the record straight"!

Below is a note from JMS on this very issue
______________________________________________

It may seem small and unimportant -- as it the case with those who have been dogging Bruce with this lie for years now -- but when someone is out there slandering you, and saying things about you that simply aren't true, when the Big Lie it just perpetuated by people repeating it, it can scrape a lot over time. Bruce has wanted to put this lie to rights for a long time now, because it totally distorts his history
with the show.

People seem to have no problem putting the lie out there, it was important enough for them to spend *years* repeating it and spreading their venom out there, so taking five seconds to get a photo that puts
these lies to rest and lets Bruce deal with this seems totally reasonable.

I will not go into listing those reasonable for this crap but I will say that they need to get a life and stop spreading such rumors. It's just a show (all be it one of the best of all time) a show still the same. These actors do their best to bring the tale to life for us and as a result, it seems like they get more than they bargained for sometimes.

Babylon 5:TLT's More updates from JMS
10/28/2006

Well it looks like I was close when I said we would be getting a Delenn, Lockley and Garabaldi episode. I didn't think about a Galen episode but it could be Crusade related. However it looks like we will be getting a Sheridan episode and either a Galen or Lockley episode and Garibaldi next time, so I was close but no cigar. Oh well, you be the judge after reading the great makers latest post on the progress of our beloved B5.

______________________________________________

Well, tomorrow I head back to LA for meetings on other projects for two
days, then it's back to Vancouver again on Sunday to continue prep. So
far everything's laying out very cleanly. We have an EFX house on
board now, which was the last big step to be undertaken. It wasn't
until the last day or so that we could really get into the CGI issues,
which are huge on these stories.

And in regard to that...the initial goal was to try and do three big
stories in one DVD. So I wrote three scripts, featuring Sheridan,
Lochley, Galen and Garibaldi. (I wanted to focus on the human
characters initially so we'd have more time for prosthetics R&D for the
next one.) The stories, as noted previously, were huge...all over the
map, from Minbar, to Earth, Mars, the future, the distant past, as well
as B5 itself obviously. We're also going to be trying some new
production technologies, again trying to stay ahead of the tech curve,
the way B5 has always stayed ahead on these things.

And over the last few days, as we began to bring on crew and lay out
the production, looking at just how complicated these mini-movies were
going to be, the idea of making three of these monsters began to become
a bit much for us to pull off on out first time out the gate,
especially since I'm still kind of new as a director. So we decided to
postpone one of the three to the next DVD, and lengthen the other two
to make up the difference. GIven that the Garibaldi story was the most
complicated visually and technically, also the most difficult from a
CGi perspective, that's the one that got pushed until, potentially,
next time.

And if the sales are anywhere near what WB expects, and I think they
will be, there's no question that there will be more of these down the
road. So we're gong to focus in on those two stories and knock them
out of the park. Same length, same running time, and now even bigger
than at first anticipated since the budget on number three will now be
applied to the other two.

Part of what we're doing is to re-think the look of B5 to some degree.
The show was created using 1993 technology, video toasters and amigas,
and was to some extent limited by the paradigms and production methods
we used in that. But it's now 13 years later, and while I will keep
the feel of the show the same, and the silhouettes and designs, there's
no reason to limit the look of the feel to what we could do six years
ago (from when we stopped). So we're going to invest a lot of time,
effort and money into really re-imagining some of the visuals at the
present level -- looking at shows like Battlestar and the like -- and
bringing those tools into B5 while still maintaining the feel of the
show.

I also managed to work in a nice nod to Andreas and Richard in the two
mini-movies.

So with that...the team is now in place, the last personnel have been
hired, and as soon as I get back to Vancouver, I get to take off the
producer's hat and put on the director's hat.

New Babylon 5 Project: JMS' Fast Follow-up..
10/16/2006

Here's the latest news from JMS on the B5 project currently in the works.

______________________________________________

Just got back tonight from Vancouver, and we've now nailed down/hired
nearly all of our key department heads and the Director of Photography
who I'll be working with closely during production. We spent today in
the first informal production meeting going over how we're going to
shoot this, reviewing the storyboards, determining what's going to be
green screen and what's going to be practical set...this should be a
pretty cool looking project, with some sights we haven't really seen
before as well as some more familiar sights.

What I can say about the three episodes is that we go to Mars, Minbar
and of course B5, we introduce a new kind of Minbari cruiser, and
there's a rather startling sequence on Earth. I've decided to shoot
each segment a little differently from each other, so they each have
their own visual style that complements that particular story. On
Monday the B5 team up north will be checking out the stages, and about
a week or so from now the actual B5 offices will open up and folks will
start moving in.

It's starting to feel a lot like fun.

We'll also be working with WB to put together a special reel from the
shoot that we can bring to debut at San Diego Comic Con next year.

Well what can I say except, it sounds like things are coming right along. No news on the actors yet but based on the locations I will take a guess. Mars could mean a Garibaldi episode, Minbar sounds like a Valen or Veer or Delenn episode and B5 could be anyone's episode. Personally I would love to see an episode where Michael O'Hare reprises his role as Valen when he appeared on Minbar a thousand years ago, that would be awesome. Or what it was like for Veer when he was sent to Minbar as the Centauri Ambassador. And a Lockley episode would be good too, she's just so damn hot!!! Oh well, as soon as I hear more, I'll post it.

New Babylon 5 Project: The Lost Tales Update
10/12/2006

Well finally we have some definitive news about the progress taking place on B5: The Lost Tales. Below is the latest from JMS, for those of you who have not heard the news.

______________________________________________

Posted by JMS 10/11/06 at babylon5.moderated group

Just a quick follow-up...I'm in Vancouver (coming back in 24 hours) finishing up a round of final staff interviews for B5:TLT. Thus far, we've hired two other producers, a script supervisor, a post supervisor, the editor, a production manager, a conceptual artist/storyboard guy, an art director/production designer, a first assistant director, and closed several cast deals, with the rest probably to be closed next week, at which time I may be able to say who they are. Pending final negotiations, Chris Franke has agreed to come on board to do the music. We're interviewing CGI houses up here to decide which to go with. The three scripts have been completed, and are now being storyboarded. We've narrowed down the director of photography options to just a few last guys, and should have that decided by week's end. We've also locked down the stage and have started putting together our package (camera, lights, grip and
electrics).

By this time next week, about 80% of our crew will be in hand, the rest coming aboard during the start of prep.

So there you are, from the horses mouth. We will have news about the actors in a week or so. I've got a feeling we are going to get some Sheridan and Delenn episodes first but I could be wrong, just because that is to predictable. Better would be Lyta and Bester during the teep war or something in the Crusade timeline, wouldn't thaT be COOL. Well I guess there's no sense vacillating the point.

We're all happy that's it's really getting made again and I certainly hope we're all happy with what we get. More to come....... Stay tuned.......

New Babylon 5 Project: The Lost Tales
7/22/2006

Well it looks like our prayers have been answered. The great maker has enabled a deal between Warner's and JMS to bring the B5 universe back to life. The details known thus far have been posted below. :)

Originally Posted by Jan who attended the Comic Con event and heard it first hand.

What JMS suggested was a bunch of short films—little mini-movies, an anthology show set in the Babylon 5 universe. They said, “Okay.” There’s a network already interested in carrying them but they’re also planned for direct to DVD. This will be “Babylon 5 – The Lost Tales", a lot of small stories that never made it into the series that he’s rediscovered notes for. And JMS wants no interference, complete creative support – in writing. They said, “Okay.” And JMS wants to direct them. They said, “Okay.” The first will be three individual stories about three of the main characters (to be determined). The plan is to shoot in September, post-production Oct.-Dec. and they’ll probably come out the second quarter of 2007.

We have a budget, we're greenlit, we're going.

As for what prompted the interest now at WB...it's only recently that they've finally run through all 5 seasons, which for many years now has been a constant source of revenue, and I think they would love to have something to continue to with. The recent news re: Changeling probably didn't hurt, but the deal was actually being negotiated long before there *was* a feature film deal with Imagine. As I recall, we finalized the deal right around the time that the Imagine news was announced.

It was a rather extraordinary 24 hours.

I held off saying anything until I was cleared by WB to announce it as a go project. Ultimately, whether we shoot in Vancouver or elsewhere will be a function of the deal that gets made locally.

So there we have it from the horses mouth. It's a done deal, we will be getting more of our beloved B5.

Keep B5 Alive has a new home!
4/1/2006

Hello and thank you for checking in on us here at KeepB5Alive. Well there has been a few changes of late that are well worth being mentioned. Andrew from the now parent site http://firstones.com has been kind enough to offer hosting of the fan sites within his archive domain. This is great news for all the fans as now it's going to be possible to visit older fan sites that have gone away all in one easy to navigate site. Sites like this one went away because of the expense to maintain it outweighed the usefulness of the site. Thanks to Andrew the site can continue without cost and thus we are greatly indebted to him for being so gracious as to allow us to continue. Cheers Andrew!

On a sad note

Last month we lost G'Kar and the actor Andreas Katsulas. Below is a copy of the post by JMS after he got the news. There has been no other comments regarding G'Kar from JMS since the tragic day.

Posted by JMS on 2-14-06

Just over a year ago, Andreas Katsulas -- who loved smoking with a
passion that cannot be described -- was diagnosed with lung cancer,
which by then had already spread to other areas. He quit smoking at
once and went on a healthy diet and vitamin program, but there was
little hope of a good resolution even though the new regimen was very
good for him. When we spoke about it, he laughed, and said, "Now that
I'm dying I've never felt better!"

His spirits were always up and positive, putting everyone at ease about
his condition, because...well, that's the kind of person he was.

A couple of months ago, he and his wife convened a dinner with me,
Doug, and Peter Jurasik, which was filled with laughter and stories and
good food. He wanted to know all the stories we never told him
because, as he said, "Who am I going to tell?" So we did. Because we
knew we were saying goodbye, and there would not be a second chance.

Last night, in the company of his wife and family, Andreas closed his
eyes and went away.

He lived an amazing life...full of travel and wonder and good
work...was part of the world renowned Peter Brook company...he saw the
planet, loved and was loved, ate at great restaurants, smoked too many
cigarettes...he lived a life some people would die for.

And, sadly, due to the last part of that equation...he did.

Memorial arrangements are still being worked out, but will doubtless be
private.

Andreas is gone...and G'Kar with him, because no one else can ever play
that role, or ever will.

I will miss him terribly.

J. Michael Straczynski

There is no reason to believe that our loss of G'Kar will sound the final end to the universe as we know it. G'Kar was a very important part of the first story but the universe can and will go on without him. Sure it will always be missing something but the stories in the future timeline did not suggest that he would once again be a pivotal character in the story other than killing Londo and his travels with Lita.

After reading JMS' post I get the feeling that he had doubts about Andreas' mortality and probably subconsciously wrote him out of any future story arch's. Short of his roll in Rangers, not much else seemed to be in the cards for his character or at least that's how it seems from what was aired on TV. However not getting to at least read the script for TMoS leaves me wondering if a new direction was not planned for G'Kar.

I guess we will never know what else JMS had in mind for him. One thing I do know for sure, is the character G'Kar was one of the best on the show and one of my favorites.
I'm sure I'll enjoy whatever comes in the future for B5 but I will always wonder how much better it could have been with G'kar in the mix.

Andreas, you will be greatly missed. May your path lead you to the great maker of all things and if so, perhaps you will be seen again someday.

By the way....

All good things come to an end...
11/16/2005

Well it's been great following the progress of B5 this year and as much as I would like to keep this site posted at keepb5alive.com, it's just no longer justifiable. So effective 12/10/05 the site will be moving to my server. This way I wont have to pay for hosting or domain renewals but I'll still be able to post important updates if they come about. The site will be moved too, http://accusites.com/keepb5alive/index.htm. Please bookmark it for future reference and if anyone would like to purchase the keepb5alive domain please feel free to take the torch and continue the job. The site has had about 200,000 visitors in the last year and to everyone of you I'd like to say THANK YOU! for visiting and participating in our campaigns.

This decision was not made lightly but with much deliberation and in the end the truth is, there really isn't much to cover that's not already being covered by other sources. If I had the time to spend editing the rehashed news from other sites and felt it was important to do so, then I would. Lets face it chances are good that something in the B5 universe will happen. It's just a matter of time and when it dose, I'll be the first one to support it if at all possible. So please understand that I've lost no love for the show.

This site was originally created to focus the attention and abilities of the fans on the goal of keeping the original members in the movie "Tmos" but that project is long since dead now and it may very well be a longer time before we really get something worthy of the old universe again. Joe is doing what he can to get all of it out there for everyone in the form of the scripts and all at http://babylon5scripts.com/. I suggest that everyone should complete the set and get the ALL bonus material. I'm sure it will be worth every penny, besides this is another way that we the fans can show our support for B5 and perhaps it too, will make a difference.

On another note I would like to wish everyone Happy Holidays ahead.

To all of those who love reading and want to have the saga in script form, this is for you. We may even get the Crusade scripts which I would find especially interesting. If we're spending enough on these scripts JMS may even release a script version of TMoS. Who knows it never hurts to dream.....

Not Much Going on these days?
7/13/2005

Well as you have probably noticed, not much has been going on here lately. Well there are two reason for this this lack of activity. One; I recently received the keys to a new house I had built in western Arizona and although its only about a four hour drive each way, the trips back and forth have taken there toll on me. With this has also come the need for many things like landscaping, decorating etc. Secondly; JMS' auction has ended and so has any news on the B5 front. At this point it appears that perhaps JMS decided to auction off some of his memorabilia just to pacify the fans knowing that nothing new is coming down the pipe for along time to come but I could be wrong, I've been before.

I hate to sound so negative about our beloved show returning in any form but we must all come to grips with what JMS has said in the past. He wanted to tell a five year story, he did that, end of story. If we ever get anything B5 again we will be lucky, If not then oh well at least we got the whole 5 year story he originally told. Thank the Great Maker for that and any possibility for more.

As such this web site has become somewhat useless, now that little to no news is circulating about B5. However I'll keep it up here until the end of the year. Who knows maybe we will hear something by then. In the mean time I'll pop in now and then again, hopefully with something more useful, then mindless dribble about the woes of home ownership.

A few fans react badly to JMS' eBay auction!
5/17/2005

I've recently got caught up on what's going on in the realm of B5 and it appears that there are some so called fans out there grilling JMS over his auction of B5 memorabilia. Personally I was a bit let down by the high dollar reality these items have commanded but lets face it people, anyone who can afford to spend this kind of money and then dose so, must be a serious fan of the show. They will no doubt either covet the item for the rest of their lives or resell it for a profit to another lover/investor of the greatest sci-fi to ever grace the television screen (IMO).

As for the issue regarding what JMS should do with the money: Well that's none of our business. For god sakes man, no one said these kind of things when the WB was holding it's auction of B5 props a few years back. JMS got the shaft financially for bringing us an experience that changed our lives, enhanced it or at least entertained us and some of you would think he should give this money away? That's a bit ridiculous in my book and all though you may be offended, I think you need to rethink your decision on this issue as if you were in his shoes (if you feel this way).

There's this Brit who seems to be making quite a fuss but from what I've read he sounds like a very narrow minded chap, who sees the world through stereotypical glasses. I was raised to understand that if you don't have something nice to say then you should keep it to yourself. If an outsider observing this lack of involvement and assumes it was out of stupidity, then they themselves are exhibiting a challenged behavior (IMO).

I hope JMS is willing to offer a Ranger pin sometime in the future, I would really like to get just one of these very cool items and perhaps I could win that pin if it's offered. I'll keep my fingers crossed but if I don't get it, then you won't hear me crying about it or blaming JMS for somehow devaluing B5.

So to sum this up I would like to wish JMS well and much success with his auction. I would also like to thank him for being so willing to part with these things, they obviously meant a great deal to him. Thanks again for everything JMS, may the great maker of all things forever smile upon your path..........

Hey everyone!

I found out about these too late to give you a heads up on the first few but I've learned that there are auctions being held by a close friend of the Biggs family (and RJ's godmother) to benefit the boys. I met Caren at the Rick Biggs memorial event and she's just great.

Check out:

Caren tells me that there will be more auctions through the month so check back often.
Bid early, bid often and bid high! Good luck!

One to be Remembered (continued)
3/20/2005

The Richard Biggs Memorial Show was yesterday and I live in Orange County so it was only a 45 minute drive for me. Sad to say I've never attended any type of fan convention in the past, so it was even more special to me as a result. I've never watched "Days of our Lives" so I didn't recognize any of those actors but I sure did recognize the B5 cast. Most of the regulars in attendance were; Bruce Boxlietner, Jerry Doyle, Steven First, Jason Carter, Ed Wasser, Pat Tallman, Billy Mummy, Marjorie Monaghan, Melissa Gilbert, and the guy who played Kosh, forgive me I cannot remember his name off hand. Tony Dow was also on hand to lend his support.

A half a dozen of the Days of Lives folks attended the breakfast and had a few thing to say about Richard before his B5 days that were great stories and continued to define Richard the person. Also during breakfast Amy Ritter got up and gave us an education on the condition that took Richard from us. Apparently it's a congenitive condition that allows the wall of the Aorta to stretch to a point that it bursts killing most who have it. She recommended that every one who has had family members die from massive heart failure to be tested immediately with an ultrasound. Apparently it can be easily repaired if caught in time and it's the same thing that killed her husband John Ritter, so I guess we should all consider this scan if we're over 40 and at risk.

After breakfast the autograph session got underway with everyone visiting with their favorite actors and getting the signatures they needed to complete their collections. Everyone there had a smile on their face as they chatted about the past present and future of B5, however you could tell that there was a level of disappointment regarding TMoS when it came up in conversation.

Then they had the raffles and I won one of the 1997 TV guides that was signed by Claudia, Bruce, Billy and Jerry. Near the end of the afternoon the auction began. Then Jerry got up to finish it up and to get started again he told everyone to Shut Up, he then proceeded to auction off a few items as fast as he could because as he said, "Common people I've got a plane to catch" (Southwest he later said). Then the last item that went was Richards season 5 jacket, I think it went for close to 500 bucks. Of coarse Jerry was very entertaining with his demeanor and everyone enjoyed it.

I had purchased a prop on ebay last year and it's a MedLab Report on Delenn that I had Bruce look at. He said it appeared to be legit, then he signed it even though I had not ask him too. Oh well, I wanted to get Mira to sign it as it's her report, so I'll have to attend a convention to get that completed now. I would also like to complete my collection of B5 autographs so I guess in that regard I've got the bug (so to speak) and I'll look forward to the next opportunity to do so.

For those of you who missed out on the show, I took some pictures and put them up on the site, just follow the link below.

Best Regards,

One to be Remembered
3/19/2005

Well it was a cool a rainy day in North Hollywood but that didn't stop the warmth from being spread around the room today as friends and family gathered in the Beverly Garland's Grand ballroom to remember Richard Biggs. It started off with a fine buffet of breakfast favorites while volunteers worked to put out all the items up for auction, raffle and for sale. During our indulgence we were regaled with tales about Richard by his friends and fellow actors, that will always be remembered.

After breakfast we had a short break while they set the room up for the autograph session and luckily it wasn't raining to bad outside. Once things got back under way, I'd say everything turned out pretty much as planned. Everyone had a heart filled afternoon remembering Richard while fans collected autographs and got to spend some quality time with there favorite actors and actresses.

The coolest thing about this event for me was the fact that so many of the B5 actors and actresses were in attendance at this intimate venue. Over all it was very reminiscent of an annual family gathering, making it a great time for those of us who could make it out in the rain.

I took a few pictures and created a small gallery for those of you who couldn't make it to the show. Click on the link below to check em out, enjoy...

B5 on the Back Burner?
2/27/2005

My own feeling is that, after all that's gone on, best to let it rest
for a year or two, then see what happens. Gearing up for something like this takes a lot of time, energy and visceral material, and when
something like this happens, it's best to just take a breather for a bit. Besides, there are other fish in need of frying now, and I have to turn my attention to them.

J. Michael StraczynskiThe Memory of Shadows (R.I.P)
2/25/2005

The rule of thumb in Hollywood is that for every thousand scripts that get written, only a few dozen get into development, and out of those, only one will ever get made...if that.

A little over a year ago, I was approached by a company that wanted to make a Babylon 5 movie. They optioned the rights, and commissioned a script. (It's worth mentioning that I, not WB, own the rights to a B5 movie. When we were negotiating the original B5 deal -- by whose terms I will never see a dime in profit -- the one thing they did let me have were the movie rights, figuring they'd never be worth anything in the long run.)

Anyway...on December 27th of 2003, the script for "The Memory of Shadows" was turned in, and the process began of trying to make the deal work with all the various forces involved. It is, to say the least, a very difficult process on any movie where the studio does not directly take the financial reins. In terms of B5, Warner's position was essentially, "We only do big-budget movies with big names, so you're on your own." If there were big-name movie actors in the film, they'd get behind it; without that, things become very problematic, especially as far as the financing was concerned. You much have to put together a consortium of international interests and business plans rivaled in complexity only by the Allied invasion of Normandy Beach.

Nonetheless, every attempt was made by the people involved to get this deal in place. This was not being done by Doug or myself, but rather by the company/individuals who approached us and optioned the rights. At times, it seemed we were inches away from a deal...stages were reserved at Elstree, actors were contacted, a director was in place, the script went through many revisions, a few key staff were hired, again not by me...it was really a year-long roller coaster ride. During that time, the people involved, with every good intention, tried very hard to pull the necessary pieces together on the deal. The option expired in late December 2004, but I renewed it without cost, to give those involved more time to try and make things work.

In the end, however, the deal could be put together, and it did not look as if that was going to change at any point in the foreseeable future. So the option has reverted, and to all intents and purposes, the project has dead ended. Nor do I think this particular incarnation will arise again at any point in the future, though prognostication has always been a tricky art, especially if you have to do it without the benefit of hindsight.

This was not the first time someone's taken a run at a B5 feature film, and it will not be the last. Eventually it will happen, because such things are simply inevitable. If they can do a Brady Bunch movie, you can be sure that sooner or later, somebody's going to do a B5 movie. The only thing I can say without equivocation is that when that day comes, as the rights-holder, I will make darned sure that it's done right, because I'd rather have no B5 movie than one that doesn't live up to what fans and I myself would want to see.

To that end...I can wait.

Anyway, just thought you should know the story.

Damn,

Well there you have it everyone, straight from the horses mouth. We knew something was wrong but we had hoped it was not going to be this serious. Many who are very upset by this may be wondering if we just wasted our time on this last campaign to whom I say, NO!. Please understand our time was not wasted, if nothing else we've reinforced our position as ticket buying fans to the suits. As long as there's money to be made someone out there will want to do so. Once again we've proved that we are willing to do what it we can to remind them of it.

I salute everyone for all the support, time and efforts to print bucks and send letters in supporting of the "A Call to Arms" campaign. We are a powerful force and I'm sure we had a great influence regarding the integrity of a future B5 film. Something to be proud of and not to be taken lightly. We all are busy with our own lives and for us to take the time out to support this campaign not only shows the high quality of our character but the passion we have for Babylon 5. If the Great Maker of all things sees fit for us to get more B5 then we will, until then we are here, waiting, watching and ready to show our support once again for our beloved B5.
